Admiralty and Maritime Law

Full Service Maritime Practice

Admiralty and maritime litigation is a specialized field of practice dedicated to commercial and recreational accidents, injuries and marine disputes occurring on or in connection with navigable waters such as waterways, rivers, canals or the high seas. The Firm’s admiralty and maritime practice comprises a large percentage of our work and covers a broad variety of subjects including: Maritime Death Actions, Maritime Products Liability, Recreational Boating and Watercraft Accidents, Jet-Ski Accidents, Commercial and Recreational Diving Accidents, Personal Injuries of Seamen and Maritime Workers, Recreational and Commercial Fishing and Shrimping Accidents, Tug and Barge Accidents, Unseaworthiness and Jones Act Claims, Maintenance and Cure, Longshore Act Claims, Collision & Property Damage, Cruise Ship Passenger Claims, Maritime Contract and Insurance Disputes, and the Federal Torts Claims Act. The Firm also handles various cases in the areas of trucking, rail and transportation litigation, including claims involving the Federal Employers Liability Act.

Experience Matters

Maritime injury and death cases are even more complex than injuries and accidents occurring on land and should be reserved only for those attorneys possessing the highest level of knowledge, training and experience in this unique area of the law. Because maritime laws and remedies are distinct, and the majority of all cases fall within the scope of federal practice founded in a federal substantive law, 99% of all personal injury attorneys simply lack the expertise to successfully handle these specialized matters. We have been assisting individuals injured on the water for more than 45 years. The Firm’s knowledge and experience have earned our attorneys the Maritime Law Association’s highest membership designation as a Proctor in Admiralty. The Firm has worked with many of the top maritime experts in the country, which is often vital to receiving just compensation in maritime personal injury cases. During our years of practice, we have recovered tens of millions of dollars in state and federal court matters throughout Georgia, Florida, Texas, Louisiana and the Carolinas for a wide array of maritime clients, ranging from injured fishermen, shrimpers, tug and barge workers; to port, marina and maritime construction workers; to recreational watercraft operators and boaters; to longshore workers; to logistics and transportation company employees.

Community Recognition

Over the years John and Rice have received numerous recognitions in the field of admiralty and maritime law, including the Brunswick Port Society’s Commendation for humanitarian support to the International Seafarer’s Center, and distinction as a 25 year Proctor in Admiralty with the Maritime Law Association. In addition, we are actively involved with organizations reserved only for those intimately familiar with the maritime industry, with our attorneys having held numerous leadership positions, including Director of the Brunswick Port Society, Director of the International Seafarer’s Center, Chairman of the Jacksonville Bar Association Admiralty and Maritime Law Section, Member of the Florida Bar Admiralty Law Committee, Director of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, and Vice-President of the Propeller Club of the Port of Brunswick and Jacksonville.
